Apr 19, 2018He was born in Pike County, Dec. 19, 1937, the son of the late Edgar Allen and June Damron Akers.He served his country proudly in the United States Army, was formerly employed by Chaparral Coal Company and Big Sandy Wholesale and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vonda Lynn Akers; one brother, Ralph Akers; and one sister, Janet Tackett.He is survived by his wife, Glenda Newsome Akers; one daughter, Michelle White (Brian); and two brothers, Lowell Akers and Sammy Akers.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Lucas, Ben Little, Robbie Osborne, Mike Justice, Teddy Honaker and Tony Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at the P.K. Damron Cemetery, Virgie, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
